Barcodes Network

What is the International Barcodes Network?

The International Barcodes Network is a global network of barcode suppliers, providing quality certified barcodes to businesses around the world. The Network was established in New Zealand in 2013, and has grown rapidly – it now has almost 100 different members worldwide providing local-language barcode advice and services to businesses in various countries.

What type of retail barcode do I need?

Retail products need either an EAN-13 (13 digit) or a UPC-A (12 digit) globally unique barcode number. EAN-13 barcodes are the preferred retail barcode for most of the world (Europe, the UK, Asia, Australasia). UPC-A barcodes are preferred only in North America (the USA & Canada). However UPC-A and EAN-13 barcodes can both be used in any country worldwide.

The rule of thumb:

UPC-A Barcodes = If you are selling your products in the USA or Canada only, then we recommend that you purchase UPC-A retail barcodes.

EAN-13 Barcodes = If you are selling your products anywhere outside of the USA or Canada (or in multiple countries including USA/Canada), then we recommend you purchase EAN-13 retail barcodes.

How many barcodes do I need?

You need a different barcode number for each different product and product variation. For example, if you were selling a T-shirt in 3 different sizes (small, medium, large) and 2 different colours (white, black) then you would need 6 different barcodes – one for each different size and colour combination.

How can I get a barcode from the International Barcodes Network?

Search the International Barcodes Network website to find the local barcode supplier in your country. If there is no local barcode supplier listed for your country, then you can buy barcodes from instead.

Your barcodes will be emailed to you soon after you order & make payment. The email will contain your certified & authenticated barcode numbers, barcode images (in several high quality formats), a certificate, and instructions for how to register and use your barcode numbers.
